Leg numbness from prolonged sitting is usually caused by an increase in pressure on the nerves and blood cells, which reduces the blood supply and the rate of nerve signals. Temporary causes such as nerve compression, reduced blood flow, and poor posture can be avoided by practicing active movement every hour, maintaining a proper posture, ensuring good back support.

A stye is a red bump on the edge of your eyelid, where oil glands near the eyelashes become blocked. This painful bump is often caused by bacterial infections in the eyelid's oil producing glands. It depends on the severity of the condition and any underlying conditions. For example, by looking at your medical history, dietary habits, and conducting a physical examination, a Gastroenterologist can determine any underlying causes and offer treatment directed from that. In other cases that are less severe, troublesome gas may be treated by individualized diet changes and/or nonprescription medications that improve digestion.

Huntington's Disease is a rare genetic condition where nerve cells in the brain start to break down, impairing a person's movement, causing cognitive decline, and negatively impacting mental health. Although there is no direct treatment, certain medications and interventions can help to reduce the symptoms and allow for better coping. Medicines for movement disorders can help to suppress involuntary jerking motions (called Chorea). Medicines for mental health conditions may help to reduce extreme mood changes. Therapy sessions with a certified psychologist, doctor, or therapist can help to provide more individualized advice and course of action.
*These medications may lead to more side effects and do not change the progression of Huntington's Disease.

Initially, infants are born with about 300 soft bones. The number of bones decreases from infancy to adulthood as the soft cartilage hardens (process called ossification) during childhood and adolescence stages, creating hard bones. Some bones fuse together over time and form the 206 bones found in a adult skeleton.

Plantar fasciitis is a major cause of heel pain. This condition happens when there is inflammation in the thick tissue band across the bottom of the foot, needed to connect heel bones to the toes. Medications such as pain relievers can be taken to reduce the intensity of the pain and physical therapy exercises may help ease movement. Night splints and walking boots can help to keep the tissue and tendons in place for extended periods of time. In more severe cases, a healthcare professional might suggest steroid injections or surgery on the plantar fascia to detach it from the heel bone.

If I could simplify one tough medical concept for juniors, it would be Homeostasis. Homeostasis is the body’s way of keeping everything balanced from temperature to water and energy levels. The body constantly works to maintain this balance no matter what’s going on around you. It’s like having an internal machine that automatically adjusts to keep you feeling healthy and energetic. For example, when you feel hot, your body makes you sweat to cool off and when you feel cold, shivering allows the body to warm up.
I picked this concept because it’s so important for your body to stay stable. The balance helps you function your best in sports, school, and daily life. Homeostasis supports proper growth, and helps you stay strong overall. In fact, any disease, medication, or procedure in medicine can always be traced back to homeostasis, because keeping all body systems stable is vital for staying healthy and recovering from illness.

Myasthenia Gravis is a condition where the connection between nerves and muscles degrades, causing muscles to become weak and tired much quicker. It affects muscles in the face, throat, arms, and legs, causing noticeable symptoms like droopy eyelids, double vision, and trouble speaking or swallowing. These conditions may happen at any age but it is more common in younger women (below 40 years) and older men (above 60 years). There’s no total cure, but treatments including medicines and therapy can help control the symptoms.

Healthy eating after 50 years includes choosing nutritious foods and staying active to reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Selecting a variety of foods from all food groups allow the body to get all the nutrients it needs. The amount you eat should match your personal activity level to maintain a proper weight (calorie intake varies based on age, gender, and lifestyle). With aging, changes in taste or chewing can affect appetite so it is important to adjust meals. Drinking fluids regularly keeps the body hydrated. Eating more fiber from fruits, vegetables, and whole grains supports digestion and is important to maintain a healthy heart. Limiting salt helps control blood pressure. Choosing healthy fats like olive oil and fish is are better to promote overall wellness.
